It can be very annoying when a pen suddenly decides to burst and the ink dribbles over your fingers and inevitably onto your leather furniture. However, it is not particularly difficult to clean. Just remember the important rule that the sooner you act against a spill or stain the easier it will be to get rid of it.
Of course, there are specific upholstery cleaning products available for treating leather sofas, but you can also try applying a shampoo intended for normal hair. If you will use the commercially available leather upholstery cleaner, you must ensure to follow the directions on the bottle very carefully for risk of damaging the material.
If you are using our alternative method then the first thing that you need to do is wipe up the excess ink prior to it completely drying up.
Create a cleaning solution consisting of shampoo for normal hair and warm water in a bowl. Stir nicely until the shampoo has fully diluted.
Dip the corner of a fresh towel in your solution and blot the ink stain. Repeat this process until the ink residue has completely gone then thoroughly dry the area with the towel.
There are a few traditional remedies that you can test out on the spilt ink. How about pouring milk into a bowl and applying it to the stained leather with a towel?
Or you can slice a tomato in half and massage the ink stain. Fresh tomato juice is slightly acidic and could affect the leather dye, so it is important that you take care when using this technique, perhaps test it on an obscured area of the leather piece of furniture.
These home-produced upholstery cleaning remedies may have undesirable effects on certain types of leather, so it is important to seek advice prior to any attempts to utilize them. Of course, you can play it entirely safe and give the job to knowledgeable and reliable upholstery cleaners.
